Jackalope Brewing Company is getting into the expansion game, as word is out today that the Gulch brewery will be opening up a second production facility and taproom in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood.  The new production facility and taproom will open by next summer.

Spring construction start targeted for Melrose area Publix grocery store

Plans for a Publix near Berry Hill took a key step forward on Thursday when the Metro Board of Zoning Appeals in an unanimous vote granted the developer’s request for a special exception to build a grocery store on a 1.5-acre site at 2223 Eighth Ave. S.  “With this BZA approval, we will now move into the design phase of the project and construction is slated to start in the spring of 2018 with an estimated opening in the summer of 2019,” said Mike McGuffin, a principal in developer CHM Development.

The Nashville Post is reporting that the Soler Sisters of Edgehill’s Old Glory and East Nashville’s No. 308 have signed lease in new Wedgewood-Houston project.  Plans for the project located at 509 Houston Street have have yet to be released.

UPDATE FROM Nashville Post Full-scale work is underway on the Wedgewood-Houston former church building in which Nashville-based restaurateur Alexis Soler and some business partners will unveil their next neighborhood bar concept.

Long-Planned Wedgewood-Houston Bar Opens May 20

Located at 438 Houston Street in the Houston Station building, the casual spot, first announced in September of 2014, was originally called Hemingway’s Arcade, with the moniker a reference to the literary titan. At that time, Hemingway’s owner Chris Weber said he chose that name because it “allows us to play a lot with the menu[.] [Hemingway] was very well-versed and well-traveled. We don’t have to stick to one cuisine.”

Metro is moving forward with a long-discussed plan to transform 46 acres of asphalt, concrete and gravel at The Fairgrounds Nashville into a park and green space, injecting new public uses into the city-owned property south of downtown.   Eight multi-use soccer fields, a 1.3-mile greenway, a dog park and other amenities are planned for the underutilized, flood-prone part of the fairgrounds on the site’s south end that is flanked by Brown’s Creek.

From Nashville Post:  Nashville-based developer FMBC Investments is targeting a late-year start on a shipping container residential building on a Wedgewood-Houston parcel adjacent to the site on which Metro is eyeing a soccer stadium.   To be located at 2150 Byrum Ave. (see the site here courtesy of Google Maps), the three-story residential structure will offer 83 units and be called 83 Freight. Previously, the building was to have included 91 units.

The Nashville Business Journal is reporting that Diskin Cider Company will begin construction of an 8000 square foot facility in The Finery, the latest Wedgewood-Houston mixed-use development.   Owners hope to have the cidery open late this summer.

As of 2017, Nashville has 86 miles of greenway trails (including paved, off-street and multi-use trails), plus over 150 miles of primitive and paved trails in local parks. About 5 new miles of greenways have already received funding and are in the design or construction phase, with more miles of greenway targeted for completion over the next several years.

Discussions to begin on the future of Greer Stadium

The Tennessean is reporting that The Metro Parks Department is to begin discussions on the future of the site of Greer Stadium.   A wide range of uses have been suggested including professional soccer, a rodeo, mixed-use development, tennis center, and a grocery store.  The site which consists of 26 acres of land neighbors Fort Negley and the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood.
