Shakespeare in the Park

Centennial Park   |   Thursday – Sunday,   August 14th – September 14    |   event website

Food Trucks and Vendors:  6:00  |   Performance starts at 7:30

“Americana music infuses The Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s 27th Annual Shakespeare in the Park production. Directed by Denice Hicks, As You Like It features songwriting legend David Olney in the role of Amiens, playing his own original songs written for the show. Music director Stan Lawrence leads an authentic old time jam band with players from the Musical Heritage Center in Pegram Tennessee. Inspired by the optimistic comedies of the 1930s, and set during the Great Depression, costumed ushers will invite the audience to join the actors in our version of a “Hooverville”, where even in the toughest times, songs are sung, stories are told and there’s always time for a little buck dancing.”

New York Times: 52 Places to Go in 2014

#15 Nashville, Tenn:  Leather jackets and skinny jeans join cowboy boots.

Country music lovers have long made the pilgrimage to Nashville, but now the city has fast gained cachet among rock fans and foodies. The city’s vibrant scene is home to the Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Jeff the Brotherhood and Diarrhea Planet, who all play in town occasionally. And a youthquake is transforming scruffy neighborhoods like 12South and East Nashville into hipster hubs. New hangouts include Pinewood Social, a bar, restaurant, bowling alley and karaoke joint, and the 404, a restaurant and boutique hotel in a former auto garage. Add to that a thriving culinary scene, exemplified by the Music City Eats Festival, back for a second year in September. And Nashville’s old standbys — like the honky-tonk Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge and the venerable Ryman — are as fun as ever.

Forbes…5 Healthy Reasons to Visit Nashville Now

From Forbes….This summer, I visited Nashville, and wanted to do plenty of walking. And what better way to do it than follow in the footsteps of the stars, producers, and location scouts for ABC’s hit TV show Nashville?…

The 12South Neighborhood

Another great area to log some miles is this formerly edgy strip along one of the main southern routes out of town. The draw here might be Katy K’s Ranch Wear, iconic purveyor of all things western, or you might stumble on this up-and-coming neighborhood on your way to run or bicycle the green oasis of Sevier Park. But chances are, whether you’re in search of a vintage guitar (Corner Music) or the city’s best cup of coffee and vegan pastries (Frothy Monkey), you’ll find your way to 12th Avenue South, the new hub of Nashville’s young trendy set. And since this is one of the “groovier” parts of town, 12South is where you’ll find restaurants with farm-to-table flair (Urban Grub). There’s neighborhood spirit galore here, with a summer concert series, a farmer’s market, and Sevier Park Fest, all of them colorful occasions to see and be seen – and heard.
